Today, I wanted to spend a little bit of time sharing with you how to break down your inner and outer goals – and why they can be a crucial part of your personal development. But, our goals can also trip us up if they’re only surface level, so here’s my insight for you.
As a society, we always typically chase down external goals, in the belief that they will make us instantly happy.
They could be things like:
Don’t get me wrong, these are all great goals to have and they’re more than achievable. It’s important to have goals; they help to keep us motivated, push us to work harder, to be better and more disciplined.
But here’s the thing.
It’s equally as important to not put too much emphasis on them being directly responsible for or associated with our success or happiness.
It’s been drummed into us that once we are earning more, looking thinner or in love with the perfect partner, that we will be 100% happy, fulfilled and successful. But this often isn’t the case.
We shouldn’t rely on the results of our goals to make us feel loved, accepted or worthy, because we are already deserving of all of these things. We’ve been conditioned to only celebrate ourselves when we achieve something impressive or substantial. We are constantly spinning our wheels, chasing down that next milestone in order to take a break, a holiday, or even just give ourselves a little pat on the back.
Right? Now tell me honestly, how much time have you spent chasing these external goals throughout your life?
So here’s a WILD IDEA:
What if we started to focus on our inner goals instead?
What if you started working on your self-belief, self-love and self-worth on a daily basis?
What if you continuously practiced this, giving yourself the attention that you so thoroughly deserve, so that all your outer goals simply become an automatic result of your inner work?
Embody those qualities.
Imagine what it feels like to BE that person getting the promotion and embrace the feeling of being truly loved by your dream partner. Doing these things, feeling those feelings, believing you are already there will raise your vibration and ensure you are operating as a higher version of yourself.
Here are some practices you can implement right now so that you can start doing the inner work today:
This has always been such a crucial part of my self-love practices. If you don’t journal already, here are some helpful prompts to get you started:
2. Feel your feelings and move your body
Whilst keeping an emotion as your intention, you could consider participating in yoga, breathwork, meditation or dance. They can be amazing ways to tap into your innermost thoughts, desires and feelings – and they make you feel incredible in the process.
Here’s a beautiful meditation to transform your inner critic over on Insight Timer. Again, meditation has been a game changer for me on so many levels and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
4. Ask for relevant support
Coaching or energy healing (reiki, bodywork, yin yoga and sound healing etc) are two of the best things you can start with. A coach will guide you through both, deep soul-level shifts and practical strategic actions to get you closer to your goals, so that you can create a lasting change inside-out.
